We’re excited to share a small but meaningful update to our early years programming! All of our programs previously listed for ages newborn–5, 1–5, or 2–5 are now expanding to include children ages newborn–6. Book Babies is the only program that will keep its original audience of children from newborn to 1 year old.
This change helps make our programs more inclusive and welcoming for families. Children begin kindergarten at different ages, and siblings often fall just outside a set age range. By expanding to newborns–6 years, families can attend together more easily without worrying about whether an older sibling is “too old” to join the fun. Although the activities and early literacy development in our programs are generally best suited for children between the ages of 1-5, older and younger siblings are always welcome to attend, and all families are welcome to participate in library programs. This allows families to try out the various library programs and see what sort of activities they can expect or if a program is right for their little.
Including children under 1 year old is an important part of this update. The earliest years of life are critical for brain development, sensory exploration, and bonding. Even very young babies benefit from being in stimulating environments where they can experience songs, stories, movement, and social interaction alongside their caregivers. These shared experiences support early language development and help caregivers connect with other families.
Our early years programs are designed to support play, learning, exploration, social skills, and early literacy in a relaxed, developmentally appropriate environment. Including kindergarten aged children allows them to continue building confidence, creativity, and connections, while younger children benefit from learning alongside peers and siblings.
For parents and caregivers, this update offers greater flexibility, fewer scheduling challenges, and more opportunities for shared experiences. Whether you’re attending with a baby, toddler, preschooler, or kindergartener, our goal is to create a space where everyone feels supported and included.
We look forward to growing with your family and continuing to support learning through play now for ages newborn–6!
