  • Albertans Trust Their Libraries

    In January 2026, the Coalition of Alberta Public Libraries commissioned research by Alberta pollster Janet Brown to better understand public views on library decision-making and the principle of intellectual freedom.

    This research, opens a new window confirms that public libraries are among Alberta’s most trusted and widely used public institutions. Key findings include:

     
    70% of Albertans use public libraries at least a few times per year, with 47% reporting use weekly or monthly 
     
    82% of Albertan trust their local public library to make appropriate decisions about what materials are available 
     
    69% of Albertans believe decisions about materials should be made locally by trained library staff, guided by policies set by local library boards, rather than through province-wide rules
  • An invisible and odorless radioactive gas that fluctuates daily. Radon is naturally occurring and found everywhere, impacting air quality. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers. It claims approximately 6X more lives than house fires and carbon monoxide combined.

  • Borrow by Mail is a free service offered to residents in rural locations within the RMWB. Sign up for your free library card, place your hold requests, and choose your community as the pickup location. We'll mail your items directly to you.

    When you're finished, return the materials to the book drop in your community (Fort Chipewyan, Anzac, Conklin) or contact us at bxm@wbrl.ca or 780-743-7800 to arrange a return (Fort McKay). 

  • Our Homebound service delivers any of our WBRL materials to our patrons/residents who are unable to access our facilities due to medical, physical, or visual issues. We bring the library to you! We pick up and drop off materials at patron's residences regularly.

  • We offer a wide variety of online resources for eBooks, eAudiobooks, streaming movies & tv shows, online learning and more!

  • WBRL posts open job opportunities to our Work with Us page. We also promote opportunities on our Facebook page, so follow us to never miss a chance to apply.
