We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Words in Motion Poetry Competition!
At a celebration hosted at WBRL on April 26, 2023, Cadence Irmen, Sadie Rayne Antoine, and Juliet Manship were awarded the best poems in the elementary, high school, and public categories respectively.
Words in Motion is an annual competition celebrating the art of poetry in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Local poets submitted 238 original poems from October 2022 to January 2023. An external panel of judges featuring local poets Travis Hoyles, Dawn Booth, and Alisha Rajpura narrowed the field to 50 poems for inclusion in the 2023 Words in Motion Poetry Booklet and selected the top poem in each category. In previous years, Hoyles, Booth, and Rajpura have all been selected for the Words in Motion booklet.
The framed poems will be displayed on the second floor of WBRL until the end of May. You can also enjoy the booklet online.
The Words in Motion Poetry booklets from 2018-2023 are available physically in our collection (you can select the year once you place hold):
